Holiday Friends: Return to Moscow

Holiday Friends played at Modest Music Festival on Saturday night at One World Café.

Sara Beth Pritchett, One of the three owners at One World Café, was excited to host Holiday Friends for Modest Fest, because they are a local band.

Holiday Friends started when the band members were students at the University of Idaho and have continued after leaving school.

“We always love to come back to Moscow, because the band started here and we have ties to the city and the culture here,” lead singer Scott Fagerland said. “And it’s really cool to see the festival develop while you’re away and have a reason to come back and get involved in something awesome.”

The band got their start “very organically and slowly” according to Fagerland and grew over time.

The story of how they came up with their name is simple, Fagerland said. The group wanted a pleasant-sounding name and found some unexpected inspiration.

“Back then we were focused on being nice and we just got kind of fed up with the bands who want to have super cool names, super edgy names so we named ourselves Holiday Friends and then after the fact we found out that the house we were practicing in was previously owned by a Florence Holiday who raised troubled youth there,” he said. “That was very strange to learn that after the fact.”
