A Bachelor franchise reality television star released a song a couple weeks ago. Her name is Kaitlyn Bristowe and she was on Chris Soules’ season of “The Bachelor” and ended up being the bachelorette later on.
Since her time on “The Bachelor” she has started a podcasted called “Off the Vine”, a wine company a scrunchie line and now most recently she released a single.
The song, “If I’m Being Honest”, was released earlier this month and it’s actually pretty good.
In an Entertainment Tonight article, she discussed how the song is about her ex, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the song can be interpreted in another way.
“I was listening to the lyrics and I’m like, wow, this actually applies to so many people and how we’re all feeling right now, so I was like, why not release it?“ Bristowe said.
The song has a country-pop feel to it. It doesn’t have a groundbreaking sound, however, I think that during this time we all want something that’s uplifting and easy to listen to. That’s exactly what the song is.
I think the Chorus is great for anyone to hear during this time of social isolation and stress.
[Chorus]
And if I’m being honest
I’m not always as tough as I seem
And I can have a moments
But words can get the best of me
And the words that I say to myself
Are the ones that hit the hardest
If I’m being honest
If I’m being honest
With everything going on right now we are hard on ourselves and hard on others. We have been judging each other for how we handle the situation that none of us could have predicted, whether it be the way people have chosen to spend their time or people getting angry about seniors being sad about missing graduation, prom and other rights of passage.
We always hear that we’re our own worst critic and that can hit us harder during this time of social isolation. Bristowe even says that in the second verse “And I can be hard enough for all of us on myself”.
The song also references her not wanting to let negativity online get to her because people don’t know her. She gets a lot of negativity because she is a reality star on a franchise that is edited to be as dramatic as possible.
While she was on “The Bachelorette”, she was slut-shamed for being intimate with one of the contestants before the Fantasy Suite date, which is typically the only time that contestants can be intimate with one another because they stay in a hotel room overnight without the cameras being there.
Being intimate before that date is viewed as wrong by the fans of this show. She received a lot of hate for this decision long after being on the show.
These are just a few examples of her being vulnerable in the song. I think that this song is easy to listen to and write off as “just another pop song”, especially when it comes from a reality television star, but it actually has a deeper meaning to it and should be given a chance.
