Inspiration for independent artist Tywon Bailey came back in 2009 and influenced the way he has created music ever since. That year he met a Christian rapper and watched him create an album by himself.
Bailey hadn’t seen someone do everything from producing the music to making the graphics for an album by themselves before and this inspired him. Ever since, Bailey repeated the process he saw with his own music. For the last 11 years his music has stayed relatively the same, but he has explored different styles.
“The style of music has definitely changed but the heart of it is still the same,” Bailey said.
Some of the most notable performances of his career are singing the National Anthem at a Miami Heat game on Veterans Day, performing at the Adrienne Arsht Center and performing at the National Guard Bureau in Washington D.C.
Bailey said that his favorite experience was performing at the Adrienne Arsht Center. He said this is because it was the first time he performed for a larger crowd, and he was able to open for an artist that he admired. That artist was Canton Jones.
Along with being a musician, Bailey has also been in the military for 17 years and has done three tours overseas. Despite being busy with his job in the military and creating music, he is determined to continue to do what he loves.
“As far as balancing everything, I just make time for it,” Bailey said. “You make time for the things that are most important to you, and music is what’s important to me, so I make time for it.”
Bailey first got into music by leading praise and worship at church as well as choir directing. This is why he creates music without profanity in it.
His newest single “Down with it” was actually inspired by a sermon he watched from a pastor named Matthew Stevenson called “Rated R” about relationships and the proper way to date someone.
“’Down with it’ is a creative way to speak to people on the proper way to establish a relationship,” Bailey said.
Right now Bailey is focused on promoting the song and working on his EP that will be released in the next few months. He said the EP is finished but he just needs to put the finishing touches on it.
Bailey said he encourages people to reach out to him on social media and get to know him. The main platforms that he’s on are Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
“Encouraging people, inspiring and bringing happiness to the people who listen to it,” Bailey said regarding his music. “I think it’s our responsibility as musicians to bring joy to others.”
