REVIEW WRITTEN BY KEVAN MITCHELL (Host of “All Things Alt”)
Burnout Days is flipturn’s new album, released on January 24th. They released the news of this new drop with a song from the album, Rodeo Clown. After this, they released two more singles from the album, Juno and Sunlight. In my opinion, they did a great job building up the album’s hype with all of the singles they dropped leading up to the release. This album is only flipturn’s second studio album and does not disappoint in the slightest.
The album’s tone tends to switch a lot, some songs are very lighthearted and pop-ish while others are slow and tender in their sounds. The songs are nice contrasts to each other, forming a collective story without the problem of sounding all the same. All of the songs tend to focus on a different part of the human mind that comes with making art, especially music. flipturn describes this album as how it feels to have burnout and the side-effects of such a thing on the human body and mind, hence the name of the album, Burnout Days.
My favorite song from the album is definitely Window, it shares a lot of similarities with the song In Consideration from flipturns first album Shadowglow. The song has heavy themes of love and discussing hard topics with the person that you love. The song also seems to discuss how the person they love is “too much fun” which makes it hard to discuss these hard topics with them, even if they eventually need to come out. This song has a slower feel, while still keeping up the general tone of the rest of the album.
If I were to have to give this album a rating (which I do have to) I would give it an 8 out of 10 because some of the songs in the album do give off too much of a clashing tone, but overall the album is amazing and I would recommend everyone to listen to it.
Best track: Window
Rating: 8/10
