The Big Bobber Show

Hosted by: Bob Hesselholt

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Info: “The Big Bobber Show” is a KUOI tradition that originated as an idea in the late 1970s, with developments beginning in 1984 and culminating in its first broadcast in 1996. Our motto has always been “music and fun that radio abandoned (but I never did).” Musical variety and diversity reign here—we play a little bit of everything, from as early as the 1940s to the present, spanning genres such as pop, classic rock, classic country, jazz, easy listening, contemporary instrumental music, vocals, and classic British radio comedy. We also mix in a bit of witty commentary on occasion. So why not treat yourself to two hours of fun with “The Big Bobber Show” every week on KUOI?

Paradise Ridge and a Dead Mule

Hosted by: Leigh Robartes

Time: 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Info: Coinciding with KUOI’s 75th Anniversary, I’ve dug up old cassettes and mini-discs of KUOI shows by myself and others and inserted them into new mixes that echo down the decades. Tapes from the 1990s with responses to Neo-Nazi organizing in northern Idaho combine with the usual Mule show staples of punk, hip-hop, experimental rock and many other forms of sound sculptures. I play a bit of everything on the show. The informal tagline is “music from Coltrane to The Clash, and everything in between.” Really it’s a mix of international, jazz, and classical with a bit of punk rock now and again.

Info: Over the years, I’ve gained a different palette for music, being drawn more towards folk and indie artists, so that’s the natural trajectory this show has taken. However, the mission, just as it was at the beginning, is to still “fully utilize free-format radio,” so old country and modern pop are still on the docket, ensuring your ears are blessed as you prepare for lunch or a nap.
